MILTON - Sophomore Max Lang came through with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning to drive in the winning run Wednesday, lifting the Monroe High School baseball team to a 2-1 win over Milton in the conclusion of a suspended game.
Lang's sacrifice fly that scored senior Isaac Allen was the conclusion of a suspended game called due to darkness that was played in Monroe April 4.
In the full game, the Red Hawks outdueled Monroe and escaped with a 1-0 win. The game originally was scheduled for April 27 but was postponed due to rain.
Monroe senior Hogan Edwards pitched six innings and gave up one earned run on three hits. He struck out five and walked four.
"He (Edwards) pitched good enough to win," Monroe coach Dustin Huffman said. "The four walks were a little uncharacteristic. We liked the way he threw especially after that Edgewood game (April 25) where he tweaked his pec. We wanted to make sure he was healthy. Whenever he's out there he gives us our best chance to win."
Monroe (4-10, 2-5 Badger South) had just five hits. Both senior Carter Sawdey and Edwards went 2-for-3.
"We just couldn't get the big hit with runners in scoring position," Huffman said.
