DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque announced Wendi (Siedschlag) Wipperfurth has been named the new head softball coach.
Wipperfurth, a Monroe native, most recently was the head coach at Solon High School. She has been the Health and Physical Education teacher at Solon since 2006, assistant coach from 2007-2010, and was promoted to head coach in 2010.
"Wendi Wipperfurth is a great addition to our university," said Athletic Director Dan Runkle. "She brings with her an excellent background in the sport and is a person of exceptional character and integrity. She is anxious to learn the role recruiting and retention plays in athletics. Coach Wipperfurth is committed to developing and operating an outstanding softball program, and we are excited for the future of women's athletics at UD and in the very competitive Iowa Conference."
Wipperfurth was a four-year starter and letterwinner for the UW-Platteville Pioneers from 2002-2005. She was a two-time captain and a three-time WIAC All-Conference Selection (Honorable Mention-2003, First Team-2004, Honorable Mention-2005). Wipperfurth was an Academic All-WIAC Honoree in 2005 and earned the UW-P Pioneer Career Achievement Award in 2005.
Wipperfurth ranks fifth in the UW-P record book for homeruns in a season with eight in 2004, including a grand slam on March 29, 2004. She ranks second in career home runs for the Pioneers with 19 and ranks 19th in the WIAC record book for career home runs. During her four-year career as a Pioneer she started in 149 games and had 134 hits with a slugging percentage of .483 and 76 RBIs.
As a high school prep, from 1999-2001, Wipperfurth was a first team All-Badger South Conference catcher for the Monroe High School Cheesemakers. She has volunteered at annual camps and summer leagues from 2006-present for the Cheesemakers.
She is a 2005 graduate of UW-P and is currently pursuing a master's degree at the University of Northern Iowa.
"I am excited for the opportunity to be part of the University of Dubuque as the head softball coach," Wipperfurth said. "UD has many qualities I admire and want to instill into the softball program. I am looking forward to the challenges of improving the softball program and starting my career as a collegiate softball coach."
