EAST TROY - Monroe is advancing two singles players and two doubles teams to Wednesday's tennis sectional in Whitewater.

Monroe finished third as a team in total points (12) at Monday's WIAA Division 2 Subsectional in East Troy.

Taylor Soddy won his only match of the day to advance in the No. 1 singles bracket. Quinten L'Yvonnet won two matches in the No. 2 singles division to advance.

Monroe's top doubles team of Carson Root and Garrett Tschanz won their only match in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, to advance.

Cristian Noriega and Jess Hager advanced in the No. 2 doubles bracket, winning two matches, including knocking off McFarland's previously unbeaten tandem of Justin Couey and Jonathon Taylor 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

"Jess and Cristian really stepped up their games in this match," Monroe coach Brad Saugstad said. "The boys have been having problems finishing off sets and had a little problem early, but they slammed the door with great serves, returns, and net play in the third set."

Madison Edgewood had the most team points (24) with McFarland taking second (18).

Sectional play begins Wednesday at 9 a.m.
