FORT ATKINSON - Monroe placed eighth out of 12 teams at Saturday's Fort Atkinson Invitational.
"We had 16 individual PRs (personal records) out of 18 (races)," Monroe coach Linda Moser said. "That is amazing."
Rachel Root finished under the 1-minute mark in the 100-yard backstroke, winning the race with a time of 59.73 seconds. Root also set a personal mark in the 100 butterfly (1:01.35), which was good enough for second place.
Sarah Kind was 11th in the 50 freestyle (27.54) and, according to Moser, was an important part of three relay teams. Brianna Katzenberger (27.61) was just behind Kind in the 50 free.
Cat Weeken was 12th in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.54).
Monroe's 200 medley relay team, which consisted of Root, Lizzy Dale, Kind and Weeden, placed seventh (2:02.96). The same four took fourth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:49.59).
"We still have a lot of hard work ahead of us, and seconds to take off before conference and sectionals," Moser said. "But I know these girls, and they will do whatever it takes to get there."
Big Foot's Anna Brooks tied 2006 Monroe graduate Ellie Radke's pool record in the 50 free with a time of 24.53.
Monroe's last regular season dual meet is Tuesday against McFarland at 6 p.m., and the season ends Saturday at the Platteville Invite.
