BRODHEAD - Carly Mohns made a verbal commitment to play basketball at the Universiy of Iowa after one more season with Brodhead.

Mohns, a junior at Brodhead, announced the verbal commitment Tuesday, May 28.

"I have always had this dream," Mohns said. "I'm just really excited I get the opportunity to play with Iowa. I'm excited to become a Hawkeye and make an impact."

Mohns, who averaged 14.8 points, 10.1 rebounds per game and 2.4 steals per game and shot 53 percent, said she will sign a full-ride scholarship in the early signing period next fall. Mohns, a 6-foot, 1 inch forward, returned this year, after tearing her ACL, and was selected as a first-team Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association all-state and was named the Rock Valley South Conference Player of the Year. She chose Iowa over the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Mohns wanted to stay close to home and Iowa City is about 2 1/2 hours from Brodhead. She visited Iowa last fall and believed it would be a good fit. Iowa coach Lisa Bluder views her as a forward or small center.

"Everyone made me feel at home," Mohns said. "I really liked the atmosphere when I was there. I really like the coaches and feel like I will have a good relationship with them."

Mohns said she may major in a natural resources field. She's excited to play her final season at Brodhead. She will play with the AAU team Wisconsin Academy this summer.

"It's a big stress reliever," Mohns said. "I can just think about Brodhead basketball now."
