BRODHEAD - Senior Kylie Moe scored a game-high 30 points to help the Brodhead girls basketball team to a 75-40 win over Evansville Thursday night.

Brodhead, ranked No. 6 in the Associated Press Division 3 state poll, improves to 13-2, 9-1 Rock Valley South.

The Cardinals raced out to a 40-20 at the half. Moe and senior Amber Pickel combined to make 9 of 9 free throws in the first half to lead the Cardinals' surge. Pickel finished 7 of 7 from the line.

Pickel finished with 16 points, and sophomore Erin Nyhus chipped in 11 points. The Cardinals made 22 of 26 from the free-throw line and led by as many as 42 points in the second half.

"We talked when we can go to the line 30 to 50 times a night our opportunities of coming out with a 'W increase," Kammerer said. "Some of that was us being more aggressive and attacking the paint. Our team is very unselfish. We have talked about when you get that open shot you have to knock it down. It was a total team effort. I thought we came out a little flat. The girls responded in the second half."

Evansville's Amanda Larson scored a team-high 14 points and hit four 3-pointers.

Black Hawk 46, Albany 34

SOUTH WAYNE - A change of shooting fortunes in the second half propelled the Warriors (8-6, 5-1 Six Rivers East) past the Comets.

After hitting just 6 of 24 field-goal attempts in the first half, Black Hawk edged ahead 17-15.

"The shots weren't going in," Black Hawk coach Mike Flanagan said. "We told the girls in the second half to focus on things we could control. They came out, stayed the course, maintained confidence and the shots really started to fall."

The Warriors hit 12 of 17 field-goal attempts in the second half and outscored Albany 29-19.

In the second half, Hannah Herbst scored 10 of her game-high 16 points, Aleigha Sigafus had seven of her 13, and Brianna Hagen hit both of her 3-pointers.

Herbst also had six steals in the game, Hagen had five rebounds, and Tatum Jackson handed out 11 assists.

"We got contributions from a lot of different people tonight," Flanagan said.

Sydnee Woyak led Albany with nine points, and Payton Zurfluh scored six points on two 3-pointers.
