DARLINGTON - The Darlington girls basketball team couldn't ride the momentum of a strong first half and lost 50-41 to Mineral Point on Monday night.
The Miners were able to overcome some poor free throw shooting (11-for-21) to win.
"The biggest difference was the free throw shooting," Redbirds coach Kurt Cohen said. "In the second half (Mineral Point) did a nice job getting to the line. They shot 16 free throws in the second half while we took just one."
Darlington (9-6, 4-5 SWAL) shot 6-of-10 from the charity stripe.
The Redbirds trailed the Miners 21-19 at halftime, then Mineral Point outscored Darlington 29-22 in the second half.
Darlington junior Ashley Martin scored a team-high 13 points to lead the Redbirds. Kelsi Blosch scored seven points, Cassie Fink and Elizabeth Mathias added six each. Darlington also hit five 3-pointers.
The Redbirds host Southwestern tonight.
