MILTON - After three Monroe boys soccer players suffered injuries in the second half, Milton erupted by scoring seven unanswered goals to topple the Cheesemakers 8-1 Tuesday.

Monroe (5-7, 1-3 Badger South) started the game without two starters, junior goalie Deven Schulte (back injury) and sophomore Alex Barradas (ankle injury). The Cheesemakers had three other starters suffer injuries in the second half, including sophomore Aaron Ziolkowski (ankle), senior Luke Nicholson (quad) and sophomore Julio Vasquez (hamstring).

Ziolkowski scored a goal at 27 minutes, 31 seconds to tie the game at 1 before halftime.

But the Cheesemakers couldn't overcome the injuries.

"We played well until the second half," Monroe coach Tony Vasquez said. "I knew guys would be tired after playing last night. They just started dropping out. It just depends on the stress on our bodies. Back-to-back games have really been hard for us this year. When we are healthy, we can compete with anyone."

The Red Hawks outshot the Cheesemakers 20-8 and scored three goals in a 2-minute span in the second half.

"If we lose one starter and sub guys in who are not used to playing a lot of time, they are not as skilled or fit enough to take on the heavy workload," Tony Vasquez said.

Monroe sophomore Aidan Lambert had 12 saves in goal.

The Cheesemakers play at Watertown Thursday.

Vasquez said he doesn't expect the game to be postponed due to his team's injuries, though Monroe already had a game against Mount Horeb postponed earlier this year due to a lack of players.

"We should be able to play," Vasquez said of the game at Watertown. "We may have to start with a lot of our younger guys."

Sugar River 2, Lodi 0

BELLEVILLE - Junior Jaden Kreklow and sophomore Charlie Douma each scored goals to propel the Sugar River boys soccer team to a key Capitol Conference win.

With the win, Sugar River improves to 11-3-3 overall and 5-0 in the Capitol Conference. Lodi drops to 4-1-1 in conference.

"It was a very tough conference game," Sugar River coach Kyle Webber said. "Both teams played hard."

Kreklow scored his goal in the second half off a corner kick and assist by Jack Gentilli in the 55th minute.

"Gentilli played a great corner towards the back side of the goal and Kreklow headed the ball in," Webber said.

About 10 minutes later, Douma scored his first goal of the season off a pass from Justin Knoebl to give the Raiders a two-goal lead.

Sugar River goalie Tyler Boeck had six saves, and the Raiders outshot the Blue Devils 13-6.
