MONROE - Junior Maggie Setterstrom breezed to a win at No. 2 singles Thursday, but the Monroe High School girls tennis team lost a Badger South Conference dual match to Milton 6-1.
The Red Hawks' experienced lineup featured seven seniors.
Setterstrom defeated Milton's Kylie Robinson 6-3, 6-2.
"Maggie Setterstrom played another strong match," Monroe coach Brad Saugstad said. "She has really adjusted to singles well. She was able to win from the baseline and the net."
At No. 1 singles, Milton senior Sydney Davis beat freshman Grace Tostrud 6-1, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Milton senior Morgan Grover defeated freshman Jensen Christensen 6-2, 6-4. The Red Hawks' Larissa O'Rourke rallied to upend junior Skye Allen 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
"Many of our losses were close, and in a close match it really comes down to a handful of key points," Saugstad said. "We are struggling to win the big points. Hopefully, we can win more of those big points against Fort Atkinson (Monday) and win our last conference dual match."
The Red Hawks swept the three doubles matches. Monroe juniors Ashley Placek and Hallie Signer fell to seniors Faith Dittmann and Bethany Crandall 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.
At No. 2 doubles, Milton seniors Kayley Schultz and Riley Burke beat junior Parris Bunker and sophomore Sam Huizenga 7-6 (4), 6-3.
The Red Hawks' No. 3 doubles team of sophomore Katie Chesebro and freshman Christina Choi defeated junior Kiara Miller and senior Liz Skatrud 6-0, 6-2.
