MILTON - The Monroe Senior Legion baseball team lost its second straight game 8-1 to Milton Wednesday night.
Milton's Sam McCann struck out 10 in five innings of pitching. He gave up just one run on five hits.
"He threw hard and had a good slider," Monroe coach Eric Losenegger said. "He was tough to hit. With the way that McCann was throwing the ball, they were the better team tonight, but not an 8-1 better team."
Monroe jumped out to an early lead when Dylan Schwitz singled and stole second in the first inning. Kramer Henning then drove in Schwitz with a single.
Monroe (5-2-1, 4-2 Stateline League) trailed 2-1 headed into the bottom of the fourth inning and Milton capitalized when Kris Rieder struggled with his control.
"Kris had trouble in that inning and the next thing you know we were down 8-1," Losenegger said.
Rieder pitched 3 1/3 innings and was charged with all eight runs. He gave up four hits, struck out four and walked six.
Mitch Marty pitched 2/3 of an inning to get out of the fourth. Jared Webber threw two shutout innings.
"He did great today," Losenegger said, of Webber.
Austin Burandt went 2-for-2 to lead Monroe at the plate.
Monroe hosts Milton at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in a make-up game from earlier this year. Monroe will also have a chance to avenge its other loss when they play at Albany Monday.
"We have a chance to return the favor on Sunday," Losenegger said, of Milton.
