BEAVER DAM - The Monroe girls tennis team had unfinished business and had the Beaver Dam triple dual marked on its calendar.

The Cheesemakers (7-2) avenged a season-opening loss to McFarland to earn a share of the Beaver Dam triple dual title.

"That was our goal all week," Monroe coach Stephanie Miller said of defeating the Spartans. "For the most part, we were successful."

Both the Cheesemakers and Beaver Dam finished 2-1. Beaver Dam defeated the Cheesemakers 5-2, but the Spartans beat Beaver Dam, 4-3.

Monroe juniors Ashley Hermanson and Gwen Sutter at No. 2 doubles went 2-1, losing their first match this season in three sets to Beaver Dam, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.

"Beaver Dam just took us by surprise," Miller said. "We didn't anticipate that. You learn from it."

Monroe junior Kiera Berger remained unbeaten at No. 4 singles. The big blow for the Cheesemakers came when junior McKenzie Bruce, who had knee surgery last winter, aggravated her knee injury. Berger stepped up and won a match at No. 3 singles against Madison Memorial, 7-6, 6-2.

Miller said Bruce will be out every match this week. Berger is expected to play No. 3 singles.

"She (Bruce) has tried to play through it," Miller said. "We will have to find out what we will do with No. 4 (singles)."

Sophomore Kristin McArdle at No. 1 singles went 2-1. Seniors Pam Lehman and Melissa Hill at No. 1 doubles also went 2-1.

The No. 3 doubles team of Taylor Weis and Kelsey Erickson were 3-0, which featured a three-set victory against McFarland, 4-6, 7-5, 10-7.
