MHS nets PRs against No. 1 Milton

MILTON - The Monroe girls swimming team lost a Badger South dual meet to the No. 1 ranked Milton, 122-46 on Tuesday.

Milton, the top-ranked Division 2 team, is the defending WIAA Division 2 state champions.

"Even with the score as it was we knew it was going to be an uphill climb against Milton, we had several PRs (personal records)," Monroe coach Linda Moser said. "Milton is the defending Division 2 state champ and is looking just as tough this year in the water."

The Cheesemakers' 400-meter freestyle relay team of Angie Beaver, Rachel Wellnitz, Anika Nelson and Rachel Root finished first with a time of 4 minutes, 14.15 seconds.

Root set two personal records in the 200 individual medley and in the 100 backstroke. Root finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.34 and was third in the 100 backstroke (1:00.98).

The Cheesemakers' 200 medley relay team of Wellnitz, Root, Sarah Kind and Briana Katzenberger finished second with a time of 2:10.39.

Monroe's Maddie Schluesche set a PR in the 100 butterfly, where she took third (1:24.27). She also set a PR in the 100 backstroke (1:23.23). Nicole Thurik set PRs in the 200 freestyle (2:53.74) and 100 backstroke (1:31.88). Jenny Meritt set a PR in the 100 freestyle (1:16.61) and Hana Sulejmani set a PR in the 100 breaststroke (1:40.28).

Monroe swims at the Fort Atkinson Invite on Saturday before hosting McFarland in the final conference dual meet on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
