MHS goes 3-0 on Day 2 at Janesville

JANESVILLE - Monroe went 3-0 in team duals Tuesday, during the second and final day of the Janesville Craig Invitational, putting the Cheesemakers' record in the tournament at 5-1.

"Very impressive play from the newcomers to varsity," coach Stephanie Miller said.

Ellie Shuda went 2-1 in No. 1 singles and Lily Priewe was a perfect 3-0 at No. 2 singles.

Erica Hegi went 2-0 at No. 3 singles, and Alisa Fager, playing one match at 3-singles and another at 4-singles, was also 2-0 on the day.

Macayla Quinn and Chelsea Miller each won individual matches at No. 4 singles. Quinn and Erin Gellings beat Milton 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 doubles. Gellings teamed up with Allie Coplien at 3-doubles and went 1-1 on the day.

Brooke McBain and Ellie Grossen were 3-0 on the day at No. 1 doubles, and Ashley Segner and Chandra McGuire teamed up at No. 2 doubles and also went 3-0.

"All of these players produced wins this week and helped Monroe gain some solid team wins," Miller said.

Monroe defeated conference rival Milton 6-1, then upended Watertown by the same score before shutting out Lake Geneva 7-0.

The Cheesemakers play at McFarland on Thursday and then host its annual Cheesemaker Invitational on Saturday.
