MONROE - Monroe High School junior Jamie Armstrong has made a verbal committed to attend George Washington University on a volleyball scholarship.
Armstrong cited the school's excellence in education, as well as the school's home base of Washington, D.C., being the center of political action and excitement - especially since President Obama took office.
The 6-foot, 2-inch middle hitter was named first-team all-conference in the Badger South each of the past two seasons and has led the Cheesemakers in both blocks and kills during that time.
"When she came in, she had a really developed game and a really good sense of patience and letting the game come to her," Monroe coach Dave Gersbach said. "I think outside of her physical abilities, her mental game is exquisite.
"We couldn't ask for a better advocate. Going to play Division I ball is fantastic. It's nice to see a recruit from Monroe going to play Division I."
