MONONA - The Monroe boys tennis team lost a Badger South dual match to Monona Grove 7-0 Friday.
The Silver Eagles swept every flight in dominant fashion. With the loss, Monroe drops to 5-6 in dual matches overall and 2-4 in the Badger South.
"We took a beating tonight from what looks to be the best team in the conference," Monroe coach Matt Bordner said. "I was really impressed by Mg. They have a strong program and a nice mix of talent on their roster. Our guys were outmatched but still battled hard."
Monona Grove's Cole Lindwall at No. 1 singles defeated Monroe's Daniel Adamo 6-0, 6-0. The Silver Eagles' Caden Nelson at No. 2 singles beat Monroe freshman Bo Bahler 6-0, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, Monona Grove's Ben Travis defeated Monroe freshman Chris Andraski 6-1, 6-2 and at No. 4 singles the Silver Eagles' Lance Nelson beat Monroe's Gabe Moon 6-0, 6-0.
Monona Grove's No. 1 doubles team of Max Nelson and Jacob Munz defeated the Cheesemakers' Evan Thompson and David Keegan 6-0, 6-0. The Silver Eagles' No. 21 doubles team of Mattias Allen and Bennett Wessley defeated Monroe's Wade Sweeney and Luke Quinn 6-2, 6-2. At No. 3 doubles, Monona Grove's tandem of Keaton Straka and Noah Ehrlinger beat Monroe's Judson Rikkers and Tim Beckman 6-2, 6-2.
Monroe will play in the Stoughton Invitational today and then play another conference dual match at Fort Atkinson Monday.
"These next few weeks will be really important to finish strong so we can go into subsectionals with some positive momentum," Bordner said.
