MONONA - The Monroe High School girls soccer team lost its sixth straight game Tuesday, a 5-0 decision to Monona Grove.

Monona Grove junior Sara Paulson and senior Annabelle Shere each scored to give the Silver Eagles a 2-0 lead at the half.

About 3 minutes into the second half, Monona Grove senior Maeve Kim scored on an assist from freshman Sequoia Cruz to give the Silver Eagles a 3-0 lead. The Silver Eagles scored three goals in the second half to seal the victory.

"They scored a goal in the first 3 minutes of the second half and that is deflating for a team," Monroe coach Kyle Kasten said. "They (Monona Grove) didn't rest on their 2-0 lead. They came out fast and aggressive."

The Cheesemakers (4-7-2, 1-3 Badger South) have been shut out six of their past seven games.

"We knew this would be a tough stretch in our schedule," Kasten said. "We are trying to do some different combinations and passing. The girls are playing against teams that are mainly seniors that are 20 strong. Some of the girls are playing against players that are different than they have seen on the club scene. I think the girls are handling it pretty well."

Monroe sophomore goalie Anna Latimer had 15 saves.

Sugar River senior Brittany Kiefer scored a goal in the 53rd minute to cap the scoring.

Sugar River sophomore goalie Rachael Heittola had three saves.

Sugar River improves to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in the Capitol Conference.
