MONONA - Monona Grove pounded out 16 hits off Monroe junior starting pitcher Cody Pivonka to beat the Cheesemakers 12-2 in five innings on Tuesday.

Pivonka pitched five innings and gave up 11 earned runs and struck out two.

"Cody was around the plate," Monroe coach Dustin Huffman said. "They hit the ball really well. They were able to find the gaps in the infield and outfield."

After committing 18 errors in a doubleheader loss to Waunakee on Saturday, the Cheesemakers improved defensively and made just one error against the Silver Eagles.

Monroe (2-6, 1-3 Badger South) had five hits. Monroe senior Austin Burandt and freshman Chase Hellenbrand were each 1-for-2 with one RBI. Juniors Mitch Riese and Dusty Burkhalter were also 1-for-2.

MONTICELLO 4, ALBANY 1

MONTICELLO - Lukas Kolasch pitched a one-hit gem to lead the Monticello baseball team to a 4-1 win over Albany on Tuesday.

The senior ace struck out 14 and walked six to stifle the Comets.

"He (Kolasch) gives us our best chance to win on the mound," Monticello coach Jason Pinnow said. "We have to leave him out there if he is pitching good."

Monticello junior Aaron Hefty was 2-for-3 to lead the Ponies. Albany senior Cody Schulz pitched six innings and gave up four runs on six hits. He struck out 10 and walked two. Schulz had the Comets' only hit.

The Ponies had one runner get picked off in the fifth inning and another get thrown out in a pickle.

"We kind of ran ourselves out of that inning," Pinnow said. "We should have scored two more runs."

PECATONICA 25, ARGYLE 0

BLANCHARDVILLE - The Vikings put up some eye-popping offensive numbers, but coach Jim Strommen didn't want the performance of pitcher Matt Goldthorpe to get lost in the shuffle.

The senior allowed just one hit in the five-inning mercy-run victory - a leadoff single to the Orioles Kevin Flannery in the fifth inning. He had five strikeouts and did not issue a walk.

"Matt pitched really well. Any time you get a good performance from the mound, it leads to other good things," Strommen said. "He was very good for us on the mound and we just had a lot of quality at-bats - especially early on.

Tanner Kleppe, Drew Schleim, J.J. Hogan, Jake Scoville and Tyler Hodgson each had two hits for Pecatonica (3-4, 2-3 Six Rivers East), which scored nine runs in the first inning and added eight more in the second. Kleppe and Schleim had three RBIs apiece.

Lake Mills 6, New Glarus 1

LAKE MILLS - The Glarner Knights managed just four hits in a loss to Lake Mills.

New Glarus senior Evan Hauge pitched five innings and gave up four earned runs on seven hits. Hauge and senior Aaron Nimtz were each 1-for-3.
