MONONA GROVE - The Monroe volleyball team got off to a hot start, but couldn't sustain it, dropping a three set match to Monona Grove Tuesday.
Monroe (8-15, 1-8 Badger South) jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first game. However, the Cheesemakers couldn't hold onto the lead and the Silver Eagles stormed back to take the first set 25-21. Monona Grove completed the sweep by winning the next two games 25-11 and, 25-20.
"We just expected them to roll over," Monroe coach Dave Gersbach said. "We put it in cruise control and let up. We didn't keep the pressure on them and we didn't finish."
Monroe senior Jaclyn Ditter had a team-high seven kills and senior Sara Donvito had 10 digs. Fellow senior Abby Jacobson had 10 assists and three aces to lead the Cheesemakers.
"We don't have much time to prepare for Fort Atkinson on Thursday," Gersbach said. "We have to step up and refocus."
