BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica-Argyle junior Ben Meyer did a little bit of everything Thursday night, from signing the National Anthem to putting the hammer down with a half nelson when his team needed him the most.

The 195-pounder defeated Dean Schlittler in a technical fall, 17-0, in the decisive match to give Pectonica-Argyle a 32-30 comeback victory against Black Hawk.

"I knew it would probably come down to the final match," Meyer said. "We felt confident that we could come back and beat Black Hawk in this match. I'm just happy."

Pecatonica-Argyle coach Ike Campbell was impressed with the Vikings' resiliency as they dug out of a 24-6 deficit.

Black Hawk (4-12) stormed out to a big lead on two Vikings forfeits and Beau Holland's pin in 2 minutes, 12 seconds over Jeremy Wand at 126 pounds. Both teams forfeited at 120, 138 and heavyweight. Each team forfeited six matches.

"The kids showed a lot of heart by not getting down and looking at their momentum," Campbell said. "(Meyer) comes out and gets after it. He got on top, got that half nelson in there and the kid couldn't get out of it. He sealed it."

The tide started to turn for the Vikings (3-11) when freshman Tristan Rosenstiel (145) pulled out a 1-0 win over Black Hawk sophomore Dakota Meier.

Meier, who usually wrestles at 138, bumped up to 145 and the match was scoreless into the third period. Meier caught a bad break when he was called for grabbing Rosenstiel's head gear and that one point was all the Vikings' freshman needed.

Pecatonica-Argyle sophomore Lucas McKeon (182) also came through by pinning Black Hawk's Doug Meador in 2:37 to put the Vikings in position to win.

"It was a really big match by Ben Meyer," McKeon said. "He wrestled excellent. He is a great person. He makes this team go."

Pecatonica-Argyle junior Nick Gilbertson pinned Black Hawk senior Patrick Mahoney in 5:02. Black Hawk senior Zach Sigafus (152) pinned Jeremiah Tollakson for the Warriors' other win.

"We knew it was going to be close," Black Hawk coach Jim Seffrood said. "We shuffled the lineup to get some matches in. We gave it 100 percent and that is all I can ask for. At this point with as many weight classes as we are giving up, we have to make the best of it. It is what it is."
