Meier wrestles to second

CAZENOVIA - Black Hawk sophomore Dakota Meier had a banner day at the Weston-Ithaca Invitational on Saturday.

Meier, at 138 pounds, finished second place. He finished the day 4-1. Meier pinned Iowa-Grant's Murilo Luques in 1 minute, 40 seconds in the first round. He defeated Boscobel's Logan Jones 11-3 and pinned Richland Center's Jon Bechtel in 1:16. He earned a shot at the championship by edging Cashton's Brandon Geier 8-7 in the semifinals. In the championship match, Meier was pinned by La Crosse Logan's Stefan Jobe in 3:37.

Black Hawk finished 11th at the 14 team invitational and Pecatonica-Argyle was 12th. Iowa-Grant ran away with the title 287.5-246.5 over Cashton.

Pecatonica-Argyle sophomore Lucas McKeon (182) finished fourth. After a bye, McKeon went 2-2. He defeated Cashton's Hans Stennes-Spidahl 11-9 and in the quarterfinals, he pinned Black Hawk's Doug Meador in 2:58. Weston-Ithaca's Wyatt Seep beat him 13-2 in the semifinals. In a third-place match, Richland Center's Silas Coleman defeated him 5-1.

Meador finished seventh for the Warriors. Black Hawk had three other wrestlers take eighth place including Beau Holland (120), Crystal Novak (132) and Pat Mahoney (220). Pecatonica-Argyle freshman Tristan Rosenstiel (145) took sixth.
