BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica junior Lucas McKeon threw a no-hitter to lead the Vikings to an 8-0 win over Black Hawk Tuesday, April 23.

McKeon had 15 strikeouts and was two walks and a Vikings' error away from a perfect game.

"(McKeon) was the story tonight of the game," Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said. "He was in command with his pitches. It was a great performance on his part."

Pecatonica (3-2, 2-2 Six Rivers East) took control of the game with a five-run fourth. McKeon had a key RBI single in the fourth. Pecatonica's Will Pence went 2-for-3 with a double. Sophomore Drew Schliem scored three runs.

Black Hawk senior Merik Meythaler pitched five innings and gave up eight runs on six hits. He struck out seven and hit four.

On Friday, Pecatonica will hit the road for a doubleheader against Benton-Shullsburg, who was a sectional qualifier last year.

"We have a tough doubleheader coming up Friday at Shullsburg-Benton," Strommen said. "They beat Potosi and they are probably the favorite in the conference."

New Glarus 15, Poynette 11

POYNETTE - New Glarus played a little small ball and power in winning their first game of the year.

The Glarner Knights (1-5, 0-2 Capitol South) had eight stolen bases and had three players with at least three hits. New Glarus junior Patrick Elzen went 3-for-4 with four RBI and three stolen bases. Senior T.J. Duerst went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two stolen bases and junior Kyle Larson was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases.

"It was the first game we have really hit this year," New Glarus coach Ross Eddy said. "With the weather we have had, we haven't seen a lot of live pitching. They were patient at the plate, let the ball come to them and did not swing out of their shoes."

New Glarus junior Tyler Molencamp picked up the win after going four innings. He gave up six runs on seven hits. Molencamp struck out four and walked two. Duerst pitched three innings in relief and gave up five runs on four hits. He had two strikeouts and walked one.
