VERONA - The sixth-seeded Sugar River boys soccer team was no match for second-seeded McFarland as the Spartans rolled to a 4-0 win in a WIAA Division 3 sectional semifinal Thursday at Reddan Soccer Park.
McFarland's Alex Sonday scored two goals to lead the Spartans.
McFarland (18-3-1) advances to play top-seeded Mount Horeb in a sectional title game at 4 p.m. Saturday at Reddan Soccer Park. The Spartans are averaging 3.91 goals per game this season. McFarland knocked off Monroe 5-1 to win the regional championship and advance to the sectional.
Sugar River finished the season 13-9-1 and won the Capitol Conference title. Sugar River's Jaden Kreklow scored a team-high 13 goals and had five assists this season. Junior Brock Kelly was the leading point-producer for the Raiders with 32 points on 10 goals and 12 assists.
Sugar River reached the sectional by upsetting third-seeded Evansville 2-0 in a regional final. The Raiders won the conference and the regional title despite graduating eight starters and 14 seniors from last year's team.
