MCFARLAND - Monroe-New Glarus girls swimming coach Linda Moser measures success every day by seeing how much her swimmers improve their times.
The latest opportunity to display improvement came in a dual meet against McFarland. McFarland won 10 of the 11 events and cruised to a 122-48 win over Monroe-New Glarus on Tuesday
"It was a tough night for the girls going up against I feel the strongest team in our conference, but they worked hard and stayed with them," Moser said. "We went in with another swimmer out, so they knew they had to find a way to try and hold it all together."
New Glarus freshman Madelyn Hammer finished first place in the 200-meter individual medley with a personal-record time of 2 minutes, 37.75 seconds.
Junior Anna Wolf took second place in the 200 freestyle (2:33.12) and the 100 butterfly (1:19.57). Monroe's Grace Moehn finished second place in the 50 freestyle with a PR of 31.52. Monroe sophomore Skylar Lassen took second place in the 400 freestyle (5:14.87).
Monroe junior Anna Meritt took third place in the 200 freestyle (2:35.46) and third in the 100 freestyle (1:08.30, which was a PR. Hammer added a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:23.54).
All three of the Cheesemakers' relays took third place. The 200 medley relay team of Lassen, Hammer, Reagen Andersen and Monica Sefcik posted a time of 2:28. In the 200 freestyle relay, Wolf teamed with Meritt, Moehn and Hammer to finish with a time of 2:07.44. The last relay of the meet was the 400 freestyle relay team of Lassen, Moehn, Wolf and Meritt that finished with a time of 4:50.35.
"We were a little shy of our goal of 50 points, but knowing we were also down one more swimmer than usual, I think they showed great tenacity in their attitude towards this meet," Moser said.
