MONROE - The Monroe-New Glarus girls swim team turned in some impressive times but lost a dual meet to McFarland 110-60 on Tuesday at the Green County YMCA.

"It was an exciting night as the girls went up against a very tough team in the Badger South Conference," Monroe-New Glarus coach Linda Moser said. "The girls stayed positive and strong in the water. They did not back down and they showed it along with their times. The girls scored 12 more points than last year. Another step forward to bridge the gap against larger teams."

McFarland won 10 of the 11 events and swept the top two spots in four races including the 200-meter freestyle, 200 medley relay, 50 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay. Monroe junior Skylar Lassen won the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 5.87 seconds.

McFarland's 200 medley relay team of Alex Moderski, Kyra Billman, Emily Hanson and Hannah Nygaard won the race with a pool record time of 2:08.07. The previous record was 2:08.45.

New Glarus sophomore Maddie Hammer finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:42.18) and second in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.67). Monroe sophomore Grace Keith took second in the 100 butterfly (1:13.64) and second in the 100 backstroke (1:15.75).

Monroe-New Glarus senior Anna Wolf finished second in the 400 freestyle in 5:13.33, just 0.30 seconds away from winning the event.

"It was probably one of the most exciting races of the night," Moser said.

The Cheesemakers' 200 freestyle relay team of Hammer, senior Anna Meritt, Lassen and senior Abby Oudinot finished second (2:02.21).

Monona Grove knocked off Monroe-New Glarus in the junior varsity meet 76-13.
