ALBANY - The Albany baseball team received two well-pitched games and swept a doubleheader from Belmont on Friday.
Albany (2-1) handed Belmont a 6-5 loss in the first game and won the second game of the twinbill 10-1. Albany senior Ty Mauerman pitched six innings in the first game and gave up four earned runs on four hits. He struck out 14 and walked seven. Albany sophomore Mitchell Kauk hit a three-run homer in the first inning to give the Comets a 3-0 lead.
Albany senior Cody Schulz went 5-for-7 in the doubleheader with a home run. Schulz hit a three-run homer in the first of the night cap to give the Comets a 3-0 lead. Schulz also pitched a one-hitter over six innings. He struck out 13 and walked four.
"We will lean on them heavily," Albany coach Brandon Bakken said of Mauerman and Schulz on the mound. "I was happy to see them carry the load. It's a good sign."
Mauerman went 3-for-5 in the second game.

HIGHLAND - Monticello senior Lukas Kolasch turned in a dazzling pitching performance to help the Ponies split a doubleheader with the Cardinals.
Kolasch pitched a complete game three-hitter in the first game of the twinbill to lead the Ponies to a 2-1 win. He gave up just one run and struck out 16.
Monticello junior Aaron Hefty went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Ponies.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Highland's Nic Pierick tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out 13. Monticello sophomore Lucas Marty and Bryce Klitzke each hit doubles.

POTOSI - The Chieftains swept a doubleheader from Pecatonica behind some solid pitching performances.
Pecatonica senior J.J. Hogan pitched four innings in the first game and gave up one earned run on four hits. Freshman Drew Schliem pitched two innings in relief and gave up four runs (two earned) on seven hits.
The Vikings managed just one hit in the second game. Pecatonica sophomore Chase Norton pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up four runs (one earned) on four hits. He struck out four and walked four.
River Ridge 12, Argyle 2
River Ridge 18, Argyle 3
RIVER RIDGE - Argyle had some defensive breakdowns and River Ridge took advantage to sweep the doubleheader.
The Orioles committed five errors in the first game and it led to four unearned runs. Argyle sophomore Alec Treuthardt went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double to lead the Orioles. Treuthardt pitched four innings and he gave up eight earned runs on 11 hits.
In the night cap, the Timberwolves scored seven runs in the second and nine in the fourth to take control of the game. The Orioles committed 10 errors.
Argyle senior Kevin Flannery was 2-for-3 with two doubles.
Columbus 8, New Glarus 1
NEW GLARUS - Walks came back to haunt the Glarner Knights in a Capitol Conference crossover loss to Columbus.
The Cardinals broke the game open with a six-run fifth. The Knights walked five batters in the fifth.
New Glarus senior Bryce Anderson and junior T.J. Duerst each went 2-for-3. New Glarus sophomore Tyler Molencamp pitched six innings and gave up six runs on eight hits.
Iowa-Grant 11, Darlington 5
LIVINGSTON - Three Darlington pitchers combined walked 12 as the Panthers used a big five-run first inning to roll to the win.
Darlington freshman Jason Singer went 2-for-3 to lead the Redbirds.
Darlington senior John Sturtz and junior Griffin Heinberg combined to pitch four innings in relief and gave up four earned runs. Sturtz pitched three innings and gave up two runs on three hits.
