Mat Rats win team trophy at tourney

STOUGHTON - The YMCA Mat Rats competed in two youth wrestling tournaments and came home with a third-place team trophy in the Stoughton Tough Man Youth Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.

Twenty YMCA Mat Rats participated and medaled in their respective brackets. Placing first were Jonquel Wright, Garret Voegeli and Patrick Rielly. Placing second were Christian Schuh and Alex Witt. Finishing third were Cole Meighan, Jack Dubach, Wyatt Brown, Lukas Andersen, Luke Dubach and Bodie Minder. Taking fourth were Timothy Andersen and Jacob Amacher. Finishing fifth were Owen Voegeli, Roderick Rath, Brady Schuh, Max Patterson and Gabe Witt. Placing eighth were Spencer Brunton and Keon Butler.

Thirteen YMCA Mat Rats participated in the Brodhead Beginners Youth Tournament Saturday.

In their respective brackets, the following wrestlers medaled: Payton Weckerly and Kyle Marty placed first; Kraig Walter, Eli Kister, Gage Jelle and Molly Patterson took second. The third-place finishers were Joah Wellman, Shane Ziolkowski and Grant Ula; Xavier Hirsch, Hamilton Stites and Jace Amacher each took fourth. Garrett Minder also participated.

The YMCA Mat Rats host their own youth wrestling tournament Sunday at the Monroe High School. Wrestling will start at 9 a.m. with concessions and raffle drawings. Admission is $1 for adults or free for children and those with a donation of a non-perishable food item. All donations will go directly to the Green County Food Pantry.
