MONROE - As a tune-up before the regional tournament, the Monroe Mat Rats competed in two tournaments last weekend in Verona and Dodgeville.
The Mat Rats had 17 wrestlers compete at Verona.
The wrestlers competed in categories separated by the year each wrestler was born.
For wrestlers born in 2003-04, Jared Stubbe finished third, Liam Hermanson took fourth. Brady Schuh, Braedon Malkow and Tristan Teasdale each finished fifth.
Max Haffele and Aidan Sweeney each took third in the 2001-02 birthdate division. Garrett Grossen took fifth and Patrick Rielly finished eighth after being injured.
In the 1999-2000 bracket, Cole Murray finished second and Sam Kind took seventh. Samuel Hughes and Drake Ingold each finished eighth.
Parker Ingold finished sixth in the 1997-98 bracket and Thomas Rielly took seventh.
In the 1995-96 bracket, Troy Gorr finished second and Ryan Hughes took third.
