Mat Rats earn success on the road

MONROE - Twenty four Monroe Mat Rats recently spread out to separate wrestling tournaments in Belmont, Oregon, Middleton, and Orangeville.

Max Patterson took third in Middleton's kindergarten through second grade bracket. In Belmont, in the third to fourth grade brackets, Bodie Minder took second, and Patrick Rielly took third.

In Oregon in the K-2 bracket, Max Haffele earned first and Liam Hermanson took third. In the third and fourth grade bracket there, Alex Witt took first, Aidan Sweeney second; and Gabe Witt placed fourth. In the fifth to sixth grade bracket, Traiten Gorr took first, Parker Ingold took second and Cole Murray took third.

The Orangeville Tournament, which is designed for first and second year wrestlers had the following results:

In the kindergarten through second grade brackets, Jack Dubach, Zack Steele, Corbin Mann, Brady Schuh and Garret Voegeli all took first place. Second places went to Dayne Garwell and Caleb Bunker. Four wrestlers took third place, including Gannon Dunlavey, Luke Dubach, Cash Anderson and Isaac Bunker. In the third to fourth grade bracket, both Garrett Grossen and Wyatt Heimann earned a third place finish.

Up next will be the Monroe Tournament on Sunday, Jan. 23. Young wrestlers are still welcome to sign up for this tournament. No USA card is required for the event. There is still a need for volunteers and monetary donations. To volunteer or donate, contact the Green County YMCA.
