MAST wins 15 events

MONROE - Nine swimmers for the Monroe Area Swim Team combined to win 15 events in a meet with Edgerton and Belleville Tuesday, June 18.

Zachary Meighan won the boys 8 and younger 25-meter butterfly (28.24), 50 freestyle (53.43) and 25 breaststroke (33.40). Joseph Wyss won the 11- to 12-year-old boys 50 butterfly (1:25.15) and the 100 freestyle (2:03.60).

Belleville edged Monroe for first place 1,360-1,315. Edgerton (650) took third. Anna Newcomer, 10, won the 9-10 girls 50 freestyle (43.18) and finished first in the 100 freestyle (1:42.9). Alyssa Sinkule, 15, finished first in the 50 backstroke (55.81) and won the 100 freestyle (1:37.84). Savannah Brandt, 13, took first in the 13-14 girls 50 butterfly (41.46) and she won the 100 freestyle (1:23.20).

The other champions for MAST include Kayleigh Nesbitt, 11, who won the 11-12 girls 100 freestyle (1:54.29); Anna Meritt, who won the 13-14 girls 50 freestyle (37.13); Emily Meritt, who took first in the 11-12 girls 50 backstroke (52.93) and Ian Shaw, won the 9-10 boys 50 backstroke (1:13.71).

The MAST also won two relays. In the 9-10 girls 200 medley relay, Monroe's team of Jade Stauffacher, Ava Scace, Newcomer and Makayla Harrow-Jubeck took first with a time of 4:23.99. Nesbitt teamed with Breanne Wilhite, Hannah Swenson and Emily Meritt to win the 11-12 girls 200 freestyle relay with a time of 3:15.74.
