MONROE - The Monroe Area Swim Team kicked off the summer with a season-opening 375-245 loss in a dual meet against Platteville Tuesday.

Anna Newcomer, 11, had a hand in winning four events in the 11- to 12-year-old girls division. She won three individual events including the 50-meter backstroke (47.34), 100 freestyle (1 minute, 28.88 seconds) and the 50 breaststroke (53.73). She teamed with Emily Meritt, Savannah Brandt and Anna Meritt to win the open 200 freestyle relay (2:38.79).

Trent Newcomer, 7, took first place in the 8 and younger 25 freestyle (31.16) and the 25 backstroke (37.93).

Zachary Meighan, 9, won three individual events in the boys 9-10 division including the 50 freestyle (46.32), 100 freestyle (1:42.53) and the 50 butterfly (58.79).

Mya Scace, 8, took first place in the girls 8 and younger 25 freestyle (28.41) and the 50 freestyle (1:05.84). Elsa Schaefer, 10, won the girls 9-10 50 freestyle (48.17), the 50 backstroke (56.68) and the 50 breaststroke (56.38).

Savannah Brandt, 14, won three individual events in the girls 13-14 division including the 50 freestyle (37.46), 50 backstroke (49.41) and the 100 freestyle (1:25.56). Anna Meritt, 15, finished first in the open 50 freestyle (36.43) and in the open 50 backstroke (47.31).

Landon Knobel, 12, took first place in the boys 11-12 division in the 50 freestyle (49.08) and in the 50 backstroke (57.18). In the boys 10-and-younger 100 freestyle relay, Monroe's Ethan Towne, Taylor Herbst, Knobel and Meighan took first place with a time of 1:49.94.
