DARLINGTON - Both Black Hawk and Darlington's girls track teams finished with five first-place finishes Thursday at the Darlington Invitational.
Rachel Rygh won the 100-meter dash for the Warriors with a time of 13.16 seconds. Rygh added a third-place finish in the 200 dash, a race in which Monticello's Rachel Nelson picked up the Ponies' only title. Nelson finished third in the 400 dash.
Darlington's Hana Miehe beat out Pecatonica-Argyle freshman Kendra Sigg in the 800 run with a time of 2:33.23.
The Redbirds also got wins in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 relays. Kara Krahenbuhl finished second in the pole vault with a leap of 7 feet. Chayse Hermanson took silver in the long jump (14-7). Lisa Kreidler also took second in the 300 hurdles (52.58) and Hannah Huffman finished runner-up to Rygh in the 100 dash with a time of 13.42 seconds.
Rygh's teammate, Katie Place, won the triple jump (31-7.25) and Savannah Ernzen won the 300 hurdles with a time of 50.98 seconds. Black Hawk's 400 relay team of Rygh, Ernzen, Place and Hailey Meier also won its race with a time of 53.28. Meier finished second in the 400 dash (1:04.27) and third in the 100 (13.56).
Elise Sigg broke a meet record when she won the 1,600 run, beating Kendra Sigg by 10 seconds with a time of 5:31.08. Elise Sigg also won the 3,200 run with a time of 12:15.13.
BOYS
Darlington's Alex Erickson won the 100-meter dash with a sprint of 11.42 seconds. Teammates Jordan Heinberg (800 run, 2:08.93), Markus Garrison (3,200 run, 11:13.48), Braden Zywicki (110 hurdles, 17.04), and Jeff Reichling (shot put, 51-3; discus, 151-7) also won their events. Zywicki had two second-place finishes (300 hurdles, triple jump) and Bruce King also finished second in the high jump (6-0).
The Redbirds also won the 800, 1,600, and 3,200 relays.
The 800 relay team of Trynton Schwartz, Alex Erickson, Jordan Bryson and Cedric Flesher set a record with a time of 1:36.18. Reichling's shot put also was a meet record.
Black Hawk's Tyler Whalen won both the 200 (23.88) and the 400 (55.03).
Pecatonica's Chris James was second to Garrison in the 3,200 run, finishing with a time of 11:26.50.
Troy Berg had a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, and was eighth in the discus with a toss of 96-8.
Monticello coach Tim Dubel was pleased with how all of his athletes performed.
"There were a lot of personal records broken for the 2009 season. For us not having an actual track and the proper training equipment needed for the team, we are seeing some improvement as the season progresses."
