JANESVILLE - Junior Kennedy Ludwig and freshman Alexa Bader each scored two goals to power the Monroe High School girls soccer team to a 6-1 nonconference win over Janesville Parker on Friday.

Monroe (5-7-2) snapped its six-game losing streak and broke out of a scoring drought. The Cheesemakers had been shut out in six of their past seven games.

"The girls were just elated," Monroe coach Kyle Kasten said of scoring six goals. "The kids just kind of got their swagger back. The hard work paid off. We have been playing a tougher schedule the past seven games. We made it through, and we are a stronger because of it."

Ludwig scored the first goal on an assist from junior Dani Larraga at 5 minutes, 47 seconds. Bader scored about 20 minutes later to extend the Cheesemakers' lead to 2-0 at the half.

Monroe broke the game open by scoring four goals in the second half.

Ludwig scored a goal on an assist by senior Payton Noble at 53 minutes to give the Cheesemakers a 3-0 lead. After a goal by the Vikings, junior Morgan Seffrood scored a goal on an assist from junior Olivia Werth to give the Cheesemakers a 4-1 lead at 70:25. Sophomore Emily Benzschawel added a goal on a pass from Ludwig at 75:45 to extend the lead to 5-1. Alexa Bader scored the final goal on an assist from her sister Aspen Bader.

"We have been working on switching the ball from one side to the other," Kasten said. "They were able to do it tonight. They were not just frantic on the ball. They connected on some good passes."

Monroe travels to Platteville for its next game Tuesday.
