Local wrestlers fare well in three weekend events

MONROE - On Jan. 24 and 25, Monroe's Mat Rats team sent wrestlers to tournaments in Portage and Fennimore, and stayed home in Monroe.

At Sunday's Monroe Invitational, nine Mat Rats gain first-place honors. Fourteen finished in second place and 11 finished third.

In the kindergarten-second-grade division, Colby Argall, Luke Dubach, Maxwell Haffele, Mitchell Quinn and Aiden Sweeney all finished in first place. Brock Hummel, Bodie Minder, Patrick Rielly and Nicholas Schumacher all took second-place honors. Alex Witt, Corey Schafer, Brandon Ratz, Braedon Malkow and Kane Gunderson finished third.

In the third- and fourth-grade division, Cole Murray finished in first place with Heyden Arneson, Dempzy Foley, Drake Ingold, Parker Ingold and Brayden Zettle finished in second place. Sam Kind, Jake Meier, Shawn Powers and Kyle Walter finished third.

In the fifth- and sixth-grade division, Traiten Gorr finished in first place, with Terri Holmes coming in second and Jacob Quinn finishing in third.

Trevor Gorr and Kevin Klopfenstein took home first-place honors in the seventh- and eighth-grade division. Dusty Burkhalter, Aaron Hesgard and Ryan Hughes finished in second place, with Eric Timm and Reave Lincoln coming in third.

In Fennimore, Colby Argall and Mitchell Quinn each took first place in the kindergarten-second-grade division, with Aiden Sweeney taking third.

At Portage, Bradley Gilbert took fourth place in the fifth- and sixth-grade division.
