Local runners lead Cheese Chase

MONROE - The Cheese Days Chase brought out some of the top local runners Saturday.

Six of the top 10 runners in the 5-kilometer run were from Monroe. Adrian Farris, 36, of Janesville, won the 5K, which featured 418 participants, with a time of 17 minutes, 6 seconds. Dan Doden, 49, Monroe finished second with a time of 17:29. Cody Plenge, 19, Monroe took fourth (18:45) and Tyler Schmidt, 21, Monroe was fifth (18:50).

Ricky Keller, 25, Monticello finished sixth with a time of 19:10. Dustin Leutenegger, 28, Monroe, finished seventh (19:12). Nick Baumann, 11, Monroe, finished ninth (19:14) and Charlie Baumann was 10th (19:15).

The top finisher in the women's 5K was Waukesha's Ashley Pick with a time of 19:17. The top area women finishers were Jodi Sawdey, 43, Monroe, Belleville's Ashley Holland, 51st (22:47) and Ashley Keller, 21, Monticello, who finished 55th (22:58).

The 10K drew 147 participants. Brian Butzler, Waukesha, won with a time of 33:15. Jonathan Swartz, 20, Monroe, finished second (36:08).

Holly Nearman, 24, Milwaukee, was the top finisher in the women's 10K with a time of 40:29. Dana Olson, 30, New Glarus, took 14th (43:34).

The other top area women finishers in the 10K included Carolyn Schwartzlow, 31, Monticello who finished 47th (50:59), Joni Marty, 31, South Wayne, 62nd (53:30) and Amie Heinzelman, 24, South Wayne, 63rd (53:33).
