BELLEVILLE — In the final tune-up of the regular season before the conference championships and regionals, 12 teams took part in the Raider Invitational May 10 at Belleville High School.
Lodi won the girls meet with a score of 127.41, while Sugar River was second (110.50), Monroe third (97.66), Albany seventh (42.50), Monticello 10th (25) and Black Hawk 12th (11.50).

“This is the first year we went to this meet,” Monroe boys coach Scott Mosher said. “The boys used this as a final tune-up for the conference championship (May 14). Most kids were limited with events and we also rested some that had tired legs. That being said, taking (third) was a big accomplishment. We had some nice performances and they all competed hard.”
Kiarra Donnell won the girls’ 100-meter dash (12.85) by 5/100ths of a second. Black Hawk senior Grace Neff was third in the 400 (1:06.04).

“Trevor Rodebaugh ran the fastest sophomore time in Monroe history in the 300 hurdles, which is also the sixth fastest of all grades,” Mosher said. “He’s been improving a ton lately in both hurdle events and is becoming one of the best in the state.”

The Cheesemakers took the team title in the 400-meter relay (45.46), and finished third in the 800-meter relay (1:35.96). Sugar River was second in the 3,200-meter relay (8:49.72), just ahead of third place Monroe (8:58.18). The Raiders were third in the 1,600-meter relay (3:45.95).

“Jordan Montgomery literally broke the long jump board, putting his foot right through it and ending the event,” Mosher said. “It was too bad, because he had a monster jump right before it that would have moved him way up the leaderboard.”
Montgomery finished fourth (18-07).
Black Hawk senior Colby Argall was second in the triple jump (40-10.5), losing by just 2.5 inches.
Albany’s Evan Blumer won the discus (151-10).
Mosher was very happy overall with Monroe’s performance.
“Lucas Sathoff ran the 800 for just his second time ever and took fifth place. He’s been a very good sprinter and jumper for us all year and he agreed to give the 800 a try. Not many sprinters have this range, but Lucas is as tough as they come and has a ton of guts,” Mosher said. “As a team it looks like the athletes are heading into the championship part of the season ready to perform their best and hopefully contend for some championships.”
