MONROE — The WIAA released regional seeds for boys’ soccer and volleyball on Monday, Oct. 10 following seeding meetings the previous day.
Sugar River boys’ soccer (15-1-1, 7-0-0 Capitol) earned the No. 1 seed in the Division III McFarland Sectional after securing at least a share of the conference title on Tuesday, Oct. 8. The Raiders received a first-round bye and will host the winner of the Black River Falls/Melrose-Mindoro (1-9-1, 1-6-1 South Central) and Jefferson (0-14-1, 0-6-0 Rock Valley). Although the Raiders will be the home team, the game will be held at Verona’s Reddan soccer park on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.
Monroe (0-16, 0-7) received the 15 seed in the McFarland Sectional and will host Prairie du Chien/River Ridge/Seneca (0-12, 0-6 Southwest Wisconsin) on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 4 p.m.
After defeating McFarland for a three-way tie in the Rock Valley conference, the Brodhead Cardinals volleyball team (29-3, 8-1) received the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in the New Glarus Sectional. Their first game will be on Thursday, Oct. 20 against the winner of Fennimore (11-9, 6-4 SWAL) and Lancaster (3-19, 1-7 SWC).
Monticello (21-1, 11-0), the Six Rivers East champion, also earned the No. 1 seed in its respective Lourdes Academy Sectional. The Ponies will host Chesterton Academy of Milwaukee (2-5) in the first round of playoffs on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
New Glarus (13-7, 6-2 Capitol South) received the No. 4 seed in its own sectional and will host Boscobel (6-13, 2-8 SWAL). Brodhead and New Glarus could meet in the regional final on Saturday, Oct. 22.
Pecatonica (7-5, 6-3 Six Rivers East) nabbed the No. 5 seed in the La Farge Sectional. The team will host Shullsburg (5-15, 2-8 Six Rivers West) in the regional quarterfinal on Tuesday, Oct. 18. Both teams defeated common opponent Argyle.
The Darlington Redbirds (10-7, 6-4 SWAL) also landed in the New Glarus Sectional with the No. 6 seed. They will host Wisconsin Heights (4-11, 4-4 Capitol South) to begin their post-season run. Both teams opened their season with losses to Mount Horeb in the Monroe tournament.
As the No. 8 seed in the La Farge Sectional, Black Hawk (6-10, 6-4 Six Rivers East) will battle conference crossover opponent Benton (11-9, 5-5). The Warriors and Zephyrs share three common opponents this season, but the most telling was their respective match ups with Belmont. Black Hawk lost to Belmont 1-2, while Benton defeated Belmont 3-2.
Seeds 9-16 travel to the higher seed, so No. 9 Albany (2-12, 2-7 Six Rivers East) will travel to Williams Bay for its game against Faith Christian (11-6, 3-1 Lake City). If Albany wins, it would likely play Monticello in the regional semifinal.
Juda (2-13, 1-9 Six Rivers East) collected the No. 13 seed in the Lourdes Academy Sectional. As such, they travel to Fall River (20-11, 5-2 Trailways West) on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
As the No. 15 seed in the La Farge Sectional, Argyle (1-14, 1-8 Six Rivers East) drew Southwestern (16-7, 7-3 SWAL). The two teams will square off on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
WIAA TO ANNOUNCE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF FIELD & PAIRINGS ON LIVE SHOW
The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association will release the 2022 11-player and 8-player football playoff qualifying fields and pairings during a one-hour live program on Bally Sports Wisconsin and online with authentication as well as on Bally Sports Wisconsin Plus Saturday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m.
Veteran sports announcer Jay Wilson will serve as the host of the show, which will feature the announcement and first-round match-ups for seven divisions of 11-player football and one division of 8-player football. Joining in the commentary is lead analyst Travis Wilson of WisSports.net and regional analysts Jason Zaleski of the Zaleski Sports Show and Bob Brainerd, veteran Bally Sports Wisconsin announcer.
There will be 224 teams qualifying for the 11-player post-season with four playoff levels prior to the State Championship finals. The State finals will be played Thursday-Friday, Nov. 17-18 at Camp Randall in Madison and will be aired on Bally Sports Wisconsin. There will be 16 teams participating in the 8-player post season with three playoff levels prior to the State Championship final, which will be played Saturday, Nov. 12 at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School.
