ORFORDVILLE — With just one senior lost to graduation, Parkview-Albany looks to continue its success from last year. The Vikings had 6-5 overall record and went 4-1 in the Trailways South conference.

Wesley Egan and Sam Schwengels return as section qualifiers last season. With 25 pins last season, Egan set a freshman record and led the team in that statistical category. He finished first at the Polo and Hillsboro invites, as well as at regionals. His overall record was 31-9.

Schwengels suffered an injury early last season but came back to finish with a 14-9 record. He, too, qualified for sectionals with a second-place finish in regionals.

Seniors Ian and Evan Suer, with impressive junior seasons, could both reach 100 career wins. Ian Suer set a junior record with five tech falls. He compiled a 22-12 record. Evan Suer took first at Oakfield and Hillsboro, giving him a 26-10 record.

Slater Valley, a sophomore, also finished first at Oakfield. He took second at the conference tournament and ended with a 16-4 record. Lexi Hanson participated in the first girls state tournament in La Crosse a season ago with a 6-10 record.

With experience under their belts, the Vikings could be in the mix for the conference title. Hosting the conference meet adds to their chances.

“All we can do is take one match at a time, one dual at a time and keep working hard each day in practice,” head coach Joel Steinmann said. “We will be hosting the Trailways conference tournament this year, and the kids would love to win it all on their home mat. It won’t be easy, but we have the talent to get it done.”
