BRAMPTON, Canada — The United States began its Women’s World Championship campaign with a 7-1 over Japan on Wednesday, April 5.
Orangeville-native and Penn State University skater Tessa Janecke made her senior national team debut as a forward on the second line.
Japan took a 1-0 lead with a goal from Haruka Toko, but the US responded a minute later with a goal from Megan Keller. She was assisted by Taylor Heise and Janecke.
From that point on, the Americans dominated scoring another six unanswered goals. The United States outshot Japan 59-13.
Hilary Knight and Alex Carpenter finished the game with three points each. Knight recorded two assists with one goal, while Carpenter tallied two goals with on assist.
In net, Aerin Frankel saved 12 shots on goal, allowing just one through for a .923 save percentage.
