FOND DU LAC — Team Wisconsin U19 took first place in the Wisconsin Dairyland Classic hockey tournament held Oct. 30 to Nov. 1.
Seniors Alyssa Knauf of Albany and Anika Einbeck of Monroe helped lead the charge. Both players also play for the Rock County Fury co-op team, which made it to the state semifinal this past winter. Knauf has been a member of the elite traveling team for five seasons, while Einbeck has played for three years. Team Wisconsin is a before- and after-high school season traveling program offers high school players an opportunity to play with elite players across the state and to compete against top Tier 1 teams across the country.
Team Wisconsin won both games it played against the Milwaukee Junior Admirals, 8-0 and 2-1. The two games against the Madison Capitols were nail-biters, with each contest reaching overtime. The Oct. 30 game ended with the Capitols winning 4-3, scoring the game-winning goal with just 40 seconds remaining in the overtime. The next day, Team Wisconsin won 3-2 in a shootout, after both squads finished regulation and overtime tied.
