Tazeh and Brueggemann lead Raiders to win in opener

BELLEVILLE — Senior Tikeh Tazeh scored four goals and added an assist while junior Drew Brueggemann scored a goal and had four assists in leading the Sugar River Raiders to a 6-0 win over River Valley in a nonconference boys soccer game on Tuesday, Aug. 26. It was the season opener for both the Raiders and the Blackhawks.

Brueggemann scored the first goal for the Raiders with Tazeh on the assist at 4:09. At 12:28, Kaleb Weber’s goal and Brueggemann’s assist extended the Raiders’ lead to 2-0. Tazeh scored a goal with an assist by Arlo Belknap at 22:00 to make it 3-0. After that, Tazeh and Brueggemann took over, with Tazeh getting a goal and Brueggemann with an assist at 28:02, 34:55, and 43:39.

Goalkeeper Taydon DeRouin had eight saves in the clean sheet shutout for the Raiders while offense put 17 shots on goal. 

The Raiders played at Fort Atkinson on Thursday, Aug. 28 and host Dodgeville-Mineral Point on Tuesday, Sept. 2.


Milton 4, Monroe 0

MONROE — The Cheesemakers lost in their home opener to former Badger Conference foe Milton on Aug. 26.

Up next for Monroe is an away game at Dodgeville-Mineral Point on Aug. 28, followed by a Snack Bowl match on Sept. 2 at the turf pitch in Freeport. Monroe then travels to Wisconsin Heights-Barneveld Sept. 4 and Janesville Parker Sept. 8 before returning home to host Evansville in the Rock Valley Conference opener on Sept. 11 at T.R. Holyoke Field.
