BELLEVILLE — The Sugar River Raiders scored two goals in the second half to top Platteville-Lancaster 3-2 in nonconference boys soccer Tuesday, Sept. 9 at Belleville.
In the first half, Drew Brueggemann scored a goal with an assist from Tikeh Tazeh at 3:03 to put the Raiders out in front 1-0. Platteville-Lancaster tied it with a goal at 18:37..
Platteville-Lancaster got another goal early in the second half to take a 2-1 lead, but just a few minutes later, Brueggemann tied up the match at 2-2 with an unassisted equalizing goal at 50:03.
In the 70th minute, Brueggemann struck again with another unassisted goal to give the Raiders a 3-2 lead. The Raiders’ defense blanked Platteville-Lancaster over the final 10 minutes to seal a 3-2 win for Sugar River.
Goalkeeper Taydon Rouin had six saves for the Raiders while Sugar River got 19 shots on goal. With the win, Sugar River is now 6-1-1 on the season. The Raiders traveled to Columbus on Thursday, Sept. 11 for their Capitol Conference opener.
Monroe 3, Janesville Parker 2
JANESVILLE — The Cheesemakers improved to 2-2-1 on the season with a thrilling one-goal road victory on Sept. 8.
Monroe scored three goals in the first half and went into the break ahead 3-1. Parker scored another goal in the second half to make things close, but the Cheesemakers stepped up on defense and prevailed.
Up next for the Cheesemakers was a home game against Evansville on Sept. 11, followed by a Rock Valley Conference matchup at East Troy on Sept. 18.
