Sugar River fifth in D3 WSCA poll

MONROE — The Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association released its second poll of the spring April 9, and Sugar River was ranked in Division 3.

The Raiders (7-1) were placed fifth, behind Madison Edgewood (4-1-1), Grafton (5-1), Waukesha Catholic Memorial (6-1) and defending state champion Green Bay Notre Dame (3-0). Notre Dame dealt Sugar River its only loss in 2018, which came in the state semifinal in Milwaukee. Notre Dame then defeated Catholic Memorial for the title.

In the season opener this spring, Edgewood defeated Sugar River 2-0. Coming up for the Raiders including an April 23 match against eighth-ranked McFarland (4-0), a May 21 pit against No. 10 Wisconsin Heights-Barneveld (0-2-1, state qualifiers in 2018) and a possible makeup game against Sun Prairie (1-1-1, ranked No. 9 in D1), while was postponed April 11 to inclement weather.
