MONROE — The Cheesemakers have a new girls soccer coach. Activities Director Jeff Newcomer announced in a press release July 17 that Samantha Rudi has been hired to lead the program.
Rudi is entering her third year as an English teacher at Monroe High School.
“The knowledge and experience that is added to the swim and girls soccer programs is exciting,” said Newcomer, who also announced new swim coach, Kendra Kalvin, and assistant swim coach, Rachel Root. “The student athletes are very lucky to have such mentors and leaders at this level. All three coaches have the passion and desire that will create a most desirable team culture.”
Rudi played competitive soccer as a youth, and in high school went to the state tournament four times as a member of Ozaukee’s program.
“I’ve played soccer for as long as I can remember; in clubs when I was little, and for my high school’s varsity team,” Rudi said. “We had a great soccer program, and we made it to state all four years I was in high school, winning the state championship three of those years.”
Even after graduating high school, Rudi continued competing on the pitch.
“I had the opportunity to play soccer in a couple different college programs. Since college, I’ve played on all different competitive levels of teams throughout the Madison and Milwaukee areas,” Rudi said.
Rudi has also coached U8-12 teams in club soccer, and has officiated the game at various levels as well. She holds degrees in English and Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and received her teaching certificate from Carroll University.
