FENNIMORE — Darlington is once again SWAL champions for both boys and girls track and field.

The girls team finished with 154 points, topping Cuba City by more than 30 points at the conference championship May 13. The boys team scored a bodacious 193 points, overwhelming second place Boscobel by 59 and third place Fennimore by 106.

The boys team won five events and took second in 10 — a total of 130 points just in those 15 performances.

In the 100, Darlington’s Parker Fitzsimons took first (11.88) with teammate Blake Whalen finishing second (11.91). The Redbird duo went 1-2 again in the 200, with Fitzsimons (24.17) outpacing his teammate Whalen (24.29) down the stretch.

Whalen was third in the 400 (53.93), just behind teammate Trae Schilling (53.59), who was second. Payton Heinberg won the 800 (2:06.455) by just 4/1,000ths of a second over Boscobel’s Evan Belz. Heinberg also won the 3,200 (10:36.36), but by a slightly more comfortable margin of about 12 seconds.

Ryley Lancaster was second for Darlington in the 110-hurdles (17.79), and third in the 300-hurdles (46.17). Teammate Easton Evenstad was second in the 300-hurdles (45.45). Bailey Schwartz was third in the 3,200 (11:00.81).

The Redbirds took second in the 400-relay (48.07) and the 800-relay (1:39.39), while finishing third in the 1,600-relay (3:45.45) and the 3,200-relay (9:30.55). 

Darlington’s Alex Reuter jumped to second place in the high jump (5-08), while Whalen was second in the long jump (20-01.5). Lancaster was second in the triple jump (39-02.5).

Leif Bredeson finished second in the shot put (44-05.5) and Ross Stauffacher was third in the discus (132-05). 

On the girls side, Kathleen Mathias was the champion in the 200 (27.03), and third in the 100 (13.43) and 400 (1:03.77). Fennimore’s Brylee Nelson won the 400 with a time of 59.71 seconds, breaking the league-record mark of 59.77 set in 1995 by Darlington’s Kari (Wonders) Janecke.

Ilse Mendez won the 1,600 (5:33.70) and the 3,200 (12:30.77). Judith Meister was third in the 3,200 (12:45.46) and Roxi Reuter took third in the 200 (28.78). 

In the 100-hurdles, Lizzie Schwartz was first (17.37) with Darlington teammate Sydney Beasley second (17.80). Schwartz also won the 300-hurdles (49.95).

Marissa Gould won the shot put (35-05.5) by more than 3 feet, with teammate Giselle Mendez third (32-01.5). Taylor Wedig was third in the long jump (15-06).

The Redbirds were second in the 400-relay (54.76), second in the 800 (1:55.16) and third in the 1,600 (4:35.79) and 3,200 (11:32.68).


Six Rivers Conference Meet

PLATTEVILLE — The Six Rivers Conference held its championship meet May 13 at UW-Platteville, and Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg won the team title for both boys and girls.

Cassville-Potosi and River Ridge finished second and third in both. Albany was fourth in the girls and eighth in the boys. Monticello was fifth for both boys and girls. Pecatonica-Argyle was fourth in boys and eighth in girls, and Black Hawk was seventh for both.

In the girls 100-meter dash, Monticello senior Alyssen Noriega took first with a time of 13.00 seconds. Noriega (26.75) also beat teammate Hannah Clark (27.12) in the 200. Ponies junior Maggie Bak was third in the 300-meter hurdles (50.79).

Albany’s Kristin O’Bel was third in the 100 (13.56) and won the 400 (1:02.47), with teammate Kaitlyn Trow (1:02.93) coming in third. Albany sophomore Alyssa Knauf was third in the 800 (2:45.41). 

In the relays, Monticello’s girls 800-meter quartet of Bak, Clark, Noriega and Ali Risley set a new conference record with a time of 1:51.09, beating the 2012 Cassville mark by .29 seconds. The Ponies 400-relay took third (55.08).

Black Hawk’s 1,600 relay team of Emily Triem, Grace Neff, Kaylee Marty and Natalie Leuzinger took first (4:29.14) overall.

In the high jump, Albany’s Aayliah Landen and Pecatonica-Argyle’s Addisyn Noble tied BSMS senior Trinity Law with a mark of 4 feet, 10 inches. Law won in a jump off. Bak took second in the long jump with a leap of 15-09, just six inches behind champion Anna Kartman of Cassville-Potosi.

Albany’s Libby Beck continued her year-long domination in the throws, winning both the shot put and discus. Beck’s mark of 40-01 in the discus was 8 feet, 3 inches ahead of the next best throw, Belmont’s Sasha Wrege (31-10). Her throw of 109-03 in the discus was nearly 3 feet better than Wrege, who again took second.

On the boys side, Pecatonica-Argyle’s Joseph Tisch was the champion in the 400 (52.20) and second in the 100 (11.88) and 800 (2:11.68). Teammate Chevy Hughes was third in the 400 (54.36) and the 800 (2:16.75).

Monticello’s Rudy Wicker was the top dog in the 1,600 (4:55.55) and teammate Evan Guenther won the 3,200-meter run as a freshman with a time of 10:36.72. The Ponies’ 3,200-meter relay team of Wicker, Guenther, Braylon Hoesly and Simon Blohowiak were conference champions with a time of 8:53.57.

Pec-Argyle senior Jaden Hendrickson was second in the 110-high hurdles (16.13) and third in the 300-hurdles (44.82). The Vikings were second in the 1,600-relay (3:49.22).

In the high jump, Monticello sophomore Pete Gustafson was third (5-02), with BSMS junior Matt Davis breaking the conference meet record with a leap of 6 feet, 6 inches.

Black Hawk senior Colby Argall won the triple jump (39-09.5). Albany’s Evan Blumer won the discus by over 14 feet (144-01) and took second in the shot put by 7 inches (45-01).


Capitol Conference

COLUMBUS — Lakeside Lutheran won the boys title, with Sugar River finishing 10th of 11 teams. The Raiders were seventh on the girls side, with Lodi taking the conference championship in their meet May 14.

Sugar River’s Emily Bartow was fourth in the 100 hurdles (17.54). The Raiders’ 400-relay squad was second (53.49), while the 800-relay (1:57.26) and 3,200-relay (11:04.94) were each fifth.

In the pole vault, Kyla Jerome tied for second (8-0), and Katie Bowers was second in the high jump (5-2). Ava Foley was third in the long jump (16-01.75) and second in the triple jump (35-08.5). Haiden Zimmerman was fifth in the shot put (32-08.5).

On the boys side, Jjay Wenger was sixth in the 200 (23.81), while Adam Nelson was third in the 3,200 (10:33.41). Jared Schulting finished fourth in the 300-hurdles (42.62). The Raiders’ 3,200-relay team was third (8:49.72). Jacob Shrader was sixth in the high jump (5-10).
