Redbirds extend SWAL winning streak

LIVINGSTON — Darlington extended its conference winning streak to four games with a three-set sweep of Iowa-Grant on Thursday, Sept. 21. 

The Redbirds won by scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-10. Sophomore Maddie Gratz led the offense with 15 kills on 24 attacks. Allie Andrews and Aubrey McCarthy split the setting duties, tallying 18 and 11 assists, respectively. Defensively, Zoie Zuberbuhler record 11 digs.


BLACK HAWK 3, JUDA 0

SOUTH WAYNE — The Warriors took three sets from the Panthers on Thursday, Sept. 21. Black Hawk won by scores of 25-15, 25-11 and 25-15. Veronica Cheatham led the offense with seven kills and recorded a team-best two blocks. Maddy Lange served up five aces, and Mya Milz tallied five assists.


PECATONICA 3, ARGYLE 1

ARGYLE — Loretta Tisch had a night to remember, as the sophomore led Pecatonica in three statistical categories en route to a Six Rivers East Conference victory on Thursday, Sept. 21. The Vikings won by scores of 25-21, 18-25, 25-13 and 25-23.  

“Loretta Tisch was huge for us tonight,” Pecatonica head coach Liz McGowan said. “Not only does her talent shine out on the court, so does her leadership abilities on nights like tonight when she is vocal in the back row. While her performance has continued to be impressive, it truly takes a village to walk away with a win. This team has been amazing at picking each other up and battling no matter what the scoreboard says.”

Loretta Tisch led the team in aces (5), kills (9) and digs (23). Madelyn Cleary and Diana Hendrickson also chipped in nine kills. Anna Tisch dished the ball to the big hitters, tallying 27 assists. Defensively, Alyssa Cassidy and Anna Tisch also had double-digit digs, while Cleary alone had four blocks.

For Argyle, Kylie Butler led the team in kills (14) and digs (24). Avari Steiner dished the ball to the hitters with 12 assists. At the net, Alexis Rosenstiel tallied two blocks, while Mya McNett served up four aces.

Argyle participated in the Benton tournament on Saturday, Sept. 23, where the Orioles went 1-2. They beat Benton (25-17, 15-25, 15-9) but fell to Ithaca (25-22, 25-8, 15-9) and Shullsburg (25-13, 25-16, 15-12). Butler, Rosenstiel and Brooke Wellnitz tallied double-digit kills on the tournament with 32, 12 and 26, respectively. Avari Steiner recorded 58 assists. Defensively, Argyle received contributions from Sadie Steiner (23 digs), Wellnitz (25 digs), Avari Steiner (18 digs) and Butler (33 digs).

In other local volleyball, Monticello fell to Barneveld in three sets. The Eagles, ranked No. 7 in Division 4, are undefeated in the Six River East Conference at 7-0.
