DARLINGTON — The Darlington Redbirds (No. 6 seed) took down the Prairie du Chien Blackhawks (No. 11 seed) in a three-set sweep in a WIAA Division 3 regional quarterfinal on Tuesday, Oct. 21. The set scores were 25-15, 25-17, 25-12.
Maddie Gratz led the Redbirds with 10 kills and Lilly Ritchie paced the offense with 15 assists and 5 aces. Catie Hartwig took care of the defensive end with 14 digs and 5 blocks.
The Redbirds (18-15) faced the No. 3 seed Cuba City Cubans on Thursday Oct. 23 in the regional semifinals.
In other regional quarterfinal volleyball on Tuesday, Oct. 21, No. 8 seed Lancaster defeated No. 9 seed New Glarus 3-0 in Division 3.
In Division 2, the No. 5 seeded McFarland Spartans topped the No. 12 seeded Monroe Cheesemakers in three sets, 25-22, 25-15, 25-10. The Cheesemakers closed the season with a record of 6-22.
In Division 5 regional quarterfinal action on Tuesday, Oct. 21, Monticello beat Cassville 3-0, Belmont downed Black Hawk 3-0, and Potosi swept Juda 3-0.
The regional semifinals were played on Thursday, Oct. 23. In Division 3, Belleville traveled to River Valley and Darlington was at top-seeded Cuba City. In Division 5, No. 1-seed Argyle hosted Benton and Monticello was at six-seed Pecatonica. Results were not available by press time.
The regional finals for all divisions are at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, with the better-seeded team hosting.
