WEST SALEM — Darlington finished fifth overall in the boys team standings, scoring 150 points at the WIAA Division 3 state cross country meet at Maple Grove Venues.
Sheboygan Lutheran won the team title with 56 points, blowing away the competition. Brookwood, which lost to Darlington for the sectional final on a tiebreaker, finished second with 121 points. Stevens Point Pacelli (138) was third, Grantsburg (139) fourth and Manitowoc Lutheran (158) sixth out of the 12 teams.
Junior Rhett Reuter paced the Redbirds, finishing 15th overall with a time of 17:08.08. Teammate George West, a sophomore, was 19th, crossing 11 seconds later at 17:19.53.
Also scoring for Darlington were seniors Cristian Gutierrez (56th, 18:19.89), Caleb Weaver (70th, 18:43.56) and Michael Thompson (90th, 19:20.19).
Juniors Ethan Thompson (104th, 20:09.43) and Luis Rios (105th, 20:10.64) also ran for the Redbirds.
Durand junior Parker Schneider (16:05.78) won the boys meet by a little more than a second against Cashton senior Jarrett Carpenter (16:07.41).
In the girls race, Darlington freshman Raquel Reuter was ninth overall with a time of 19:42.07. Albany sophomore McKenna Broughton came in 26th (20:22.30) and freshman teammate Ava Ahnen was 32nd (20:43.06).
Manitowoc Lutheran junior Brooklyn Luebke (18:55.53) was the state champion.
In the Division 2 race at Colby, Southwestern-Cuba City-Benton junior Kayci Martensen (18:09.29) won the girls title by 27.58 seconds. Sister Hannah Martensen, a freshman, was seventh (19:20.89).
