CLINTON — The Cardinals made a late run to send the game into overtime, and then senior Alexis Oliver iced it with clutch free throws and a 3-pointer to pick up a hearty Rock Valley win Jan. 15.

Brodhead (7-6, 5-6) trailed 32-26 at halftime and then 49-38 with less than four minutes left to play. Oliver, who finished the game with 19 points, hit a pair of 3s. Freshman Kiarra Moe hit another 3 to help cut the deficit.

Playing in just her second varsity game, Cardinal freshman Joey Steinmann was pressed into duty and hit a pair of free throws in the final minute to sent the game into overtime. In the extra session, Clinton’s Liz Kalk hit a long 3 to cut Brodhead’s lead to one, but moments later, down by two with 10 seconds left, Kalk missed a layup that would have tied the game.

Brodhead’s Madisyn Kail hit 7 of 10 free throws in the game and finished with 16 points, while Moe had nine and Zoe Tresemer added seven.

Molly Kemp had 17 points for the Cougars (6-8, 4-7), and both Kalk and teammate Olivia Roehl added 14.
