WISCONSIN DELLS — Sugar River picked up a 2-0 league win over Wisconsin Dells Sept. 24 to remain in a tie for first place in the Capitol Conference. The Raiders (8-5, 4-0) have 12 points in the league table and share the top spot with Lodi (6-3-1, 4-0).
In the second half, Charlie Douma scored on a penalty kick to put the Raiders on the board. Later in the frame, Ryan Downing scored off a pass from Douma to all but put the game away.
Sugar River keepers Julian Lutz and Cameron Kleighboer split time in net and each faced six shots on goal.
The Raiders were scheduled to take on Watertown Luther Prep (6-3, 3-1) Sept. 26, then travel to Cambridge-Deerfield (5-5-2, 2-3) Oct. 1 before hosting Lodi Oct. 3 in a game that will likely play a major role in deciding the conference champion.
Edgewood 2, Monroe 0
VERONA — The Cheesemakers played the Crusaders to a scoreless tie in the first half, only for Edgewood to rally in the second half and take home the victory at Reddan Soccer Park Sept. 24.
Edgewood’s Alessandro Nichol scored on an assist from Ben Stitgen to put the Crusaders up 1-0 in the second half, and teammate Petch Tuongheeranchor added a second goal later in the frame, also assisted by Stitgen.
Monroe keeper Julio Vasquez had 10 saves in net. The Cheesemakers (1-7, 0-3 Badger South) were able to get just four shots off against the Crusaders (5-6, 2-1).
Next up for Monroe is a week of road games. The Cheesemakers travel to Stoughton (5-3-1, 2-1) Oct. 1, then face River Valley in a nonconference game Oct. 3 and Sauk Prairie (8-2-1) in a Badger Conference crossover Oct. 5. A night game at 7 p.m. T.R. Holyoke Field against Watertown (1-9-1, 0-3) Oct. 8 is Monroe’s next home contest.
