Raiders clip C-D, tie Evansville; Monroe struggles at McFarland

BELLEVILLE — The Raiders picked up a solid 5-0 win over Cambridge-Deerfield April 16. A day after tying Evansville 0-0, Sugar River (8-1-1, 2-0 Capitol Conference) jumped out to a two-goal lead in the first against C-D.

Jaylynn Benson scored her first of two goals in the 32nd minute, and then teammate Ellie Gentilli added another in the 39th.

Less than a minute into the second half, Benson made it 3-0. Kirsten Krantz scored off a pass from Rylee Hubbard in the 54th minute, and then Rachael Heittola, the team’s starting goalie, scored from the pitch on a pass from Kallie Ace.

Neither Heittola nor freshman backup Morgan Thompson faced a shot.

In the 0-0 tie with Evansville, the Raiders outshot the Blue Devils 7-2.


McFarland 11, Monroe 0

MCFARLAND — The Cheesemakers allowed eight goals in the first half to the state’s eighth-ranked team.

McFarland added three goals in the second half. Five of the Spartans’ 11 goals were assisted. Monroe did not register a shot on goal.
